5 Reasons Why You Should Start Planting More Trees

01/13/2015 by Ashley Welch Leave a Comment

When you look out your window, what is the first thing you see? Most people would probably say a tree. However society as a whole tends to take these magnificent plants for granted. It is not false to say that we as humans would not survive without trees. A mature tree can produce nearly 260 pounds of oxygen per year, and without them we would not exist. But what are some other trees are necessary in order to improve our world? Read the list below to learn more!

  1. Clean airborne pollution. Trees absorb odors and pollutant gases by storing these harmful chemicals in their leaves and bark while simultaneously filtering the air we breathe.
  2. Provide shade and cooling. Shade from trees can reduce the amount of air conditioner usage during those hot summer days, while at the same time block the fierce winter winds during the colder months and could potentially lower your heating bill.
  3. Protects from soil erosion. Tree roots hold the soil together while their leaves reduce the force of wind and rain on the soil, ultimately fighting to prevent soil erosion.
  4. Reduce noise. Trees muffle the noise of a city or neighborhood by acting almost like a brick wall. By strategically placing trees around your house, you can expect a much quieter home.
  5. Increase property value. The beauty of an abundant amount of trees can increase your property value by 15%.

Eco Friendly Solutions Delaware

Have you ever asked yourself “What is all the hype about solar energy?” If so then you are not alone. Many of us don’t understand how converting to solar will benefit us. So to first understand the benefits, you should first understand what solar energy actually is. In simplistic terms, solar energy is energy provided by the sun. Solar energy is by far the most dependable and most renewable source of energy, yet so many of us are still reluctant to convert. If you are one of these people then read the list below to find out the advantages of solar energy.

  1. Infinite supply. Other fuels like gas and/or oil will eventually run out, solar energy however will never have a shortage of supply as there is an infinite supply source! By converting to solar, we will minimize the dependency on these other fuel sources.
  2. Eco-friendly. Unlike other sources, solar energy is completely clean and natural and does not emit toxic pollution into the environment.
  3. Low maintenance. Solar panels require little maintenance compared to gas and oil sources, with a life span of 20 to 30 years.
  4. Cost effective. Generally speaking by converting to solar, you will essentially see a reduction in your utility bills, as the heating, cooling, and lighting will be powered from the solar panels.
  5. Versatile. Solar panels are formed by small sized solar cells which come in many different shapes and sizes. Thus making it possible to be installed almost anywhere receiving direct sunlight.

As you can see, solar energy can have a huge impact on you and the environment as a whole and is essentially the future of energy sources. So the time to convert to solar is today! Contact Waste Masters Solutions for questions!

Recycling Solutions Delaware

Some people might be intimidated by the phrase “Going Green” because most people assume that in order to go green you have spend a lot of time and money in order to make a change. However, it doesn’t have to be as complicated as it seems, sometimes it is the simplest things that make all the difference. So what can do you in order to start your green lifestyle? Follow these easy and cost effective tips to get started!

  1. Change your light bulbs. Replace just one regular light bulb with a fluorescent bulb. If you don’t like the color, use these bulbs in closets where it won’t bother you as much. Fluorescent bulbs use 75% less energy and last 10 times longer!
  2. Turn your computer off. Although your computer may be in sleep mode, it is still using up energy. By turning your computer off at night you can save 40 watts each day.
  3. Keep your freezer full. It takes a lot more energy to keep an empty space cool than it does to keep a crowded space cool.
  4. Skip the sink. If you have a dishwasher try to avoid rinsing your dishes before loading them and always make sure the dishwasher is full before running.
  5. Wash laundry in cold water. According to Energy Star, 90% of energy consumed by a washing machine is used by heating the water. By washing your laundry in cold water you are saving energy while getting clean clothes!
  6. Utilize your cruise control. When driving to work start using your cruise control. You could get 15% better mileage and as gas prices continue to change almost daily this could save you money and help the environment at the same time!
  7. Pay bills online. Not only is this becoming relatively easier, you will also contribute to saving millions of trees each year!
  8. Clean out your trunk. Extra added weight within your vehicle could also add to more money on gas.
  9. Recycle old cell phones. If old cell phones are not recycled they end up in landfills, but the phones and their batteries are still producing toxic chemicals into the environment.
  10. Cut out the stirrer. Billions of coffee stirrers are thrown out each year immediately after use. Put your sugar and cream in first and then pour in the coffee. You should have a perfect mixture!

5 Ways To Conserve Water in Your Delaware Home

10/14/2014 by Ashley Welch Leave a Comment

Water Conservation Delaware

Fresh and clean water is considered a limited resource. Natural occurrences such as droughts limit our access to fresh water, making it especially important to reduce the amount of water we use each day. Not only does water conservation help prevent pollution in our local lakes and rivers, but it can also help with lowering your utility bill.

Want to know how you can start conserving water in your Delaware home? Read below to get started!

  1. Check for leaks. A small drip from your faucet can waste 20 gallons of water every day and even more if the leak is larger. You should regularly check for leaks in your faucet, pipes, and toilets to prevent wasted water.
  2. Take a shorter shower. Try to keep your shower less than five minutes as much as you can. A four minute shower uses somewhere between 20 to 40 gallons of water. By keeping your shower under 5 minutes you will ultimately save 1,000 gallons of water per month!
  3. Water Yard Early. Waiting to water the plants later in the day when the temperatures start to increase is extremely wasteful because most of the water is evaporated before the plants are able to drink it. We suggest watering the yard early when temperatures are cool, however if this is not possible then you should wait until late evening.
  4. Turn off water when brushing teeth. There is really no point in having the water kept on in between brushing. You can save up to 8 gallons by turning the water off while brushing your teeth!
  5. Use a bucket and sponge. When washing your car and/or bike, you should always fill up a bucket and use a sponge to rinse rather than using a hose. Leaving a hose running can potentially waste 6 gallons of water every 60 seconds.

What Should You Recycle From Your Delaware Home?

10/08/2014 by Ashley Welch 1 Comment

Waste Solutions Delaware

Recycling is the process of separating and/or collecting used waste in order to transform that object into something else. Recycling is one of the best ways for anyone to make an impact on our planet. Not only does recycling help decrease the pollution caused by waste, but recycling also helps to reduce gas emissions from greenhouses. On average each person in the US produces roughly over 4 pounds of waste every day. Multiply that by the population and you will understand why recycling is so important.

So what household items should you start recycling?

  1. Paper and Cardboard. Any kind of paper and cardboard can be recycled. Paper with staples, paperclips, tape, and so forth are also ok to recycle. It’s important to keep in mind that tissues napkins, and/or paper with food residue should not be considered as a recyclable.
  2. Plastic, Glass, and Metals. Any type of glass or metal should be recycled. When separating your plastics you should always look on the bottom of the container, anything number 1 through 7 should be considered as a recyclable. Keep in mind that food waste, unnumbered plastic, Styrofoam, and light bulbs should never be recycled.
  3. Printer Ink Cartridges. Ink cartridges contain toxic materials and should never be thrown away just as trash. You can often receive a discount on new cartridges by bringing yours into major office supply stores to be recycled (You should always check with the store first before doing so).
  4. Batteries. Before throwing away household batteries next time you should keep in mind that they also contain toxic materials that pollute our landfills. Separating them into the recyclables is highly recommended.
  5. Old Televisions. Most households contain 3 to 4 televisions, which often get replaced depending on what is in demand. Instead of leaving outdated TV’s curbside, you should check with your local waste company for a solution beforehand.
